WIP Wednesday: Quilting edition!

I'm a little braver with my FMQing these days. Two reasons - first, I tackled my largest quilt yet on my home machine (7.5" harp space - yikes!) with great success, and second, my husband fixed my pedal. You see, my Bernina is from the 1970s. Most of it works beautifully - especially the tension. The tension is amazing on this thing!

But the pedal - sheesh. It overheats and stops working after 20 minutes of FMQing. And it's out of commission for a good hour while it cools down. And when nap time is 1 hour, 20 minutes, that means just 20 minutes of quilting per day! Maybe 40, if I feel like quilting at 10 pm at night...So I pick simple patterns. No more, my friends. No more. After a nice combination of duct tape, fans purchased from Amazon, and some scrap wood, a ventilation system was born and there are no more overheating issues. Quilt away!

Scalloped Diamonds

So I've been working on FMQing the Scalloped Diamonds baby quilt with some pink thread.

I picked a different FMQ design for each fabric. My favorite one is this leafy/footbally shaped pattern on the bird fabric (based on the brown leaves in the print).

It was fun to quilt and I haven't seen much like it before!

For the background, there is going to be some mimicking of the scalloped shape.
We'll see where that takes us :).

My other big work in progress at the moment is a baby....and for said baby, a stocking! This one gets a cross-stitched scene of two kids building a snowman. I just hope I can get it done in time for the holidays, since cross-stitching takes such a long time!! Especially when using that many shades of white. Gulp.

Stocking for baby #2

Lastly, I started quilting 9th Street & Boardwalk awhile ago and then got stuck...

I recently got some more ideas for it, so hopefully I get to work on that one again soon. Especially with this baby due! I was hoping to have it done before the baby came, but well....that may not happen. We'll see.

Linking up to WIP Wednesday!

  2. Your quilting looks amazing, the ventilation system must be working a treat! How long have you got before the baby is due?
